How to use this tool

Choose whether to calculate camber or the longer edge. Enter the shorter-edge length and strip width. Add the longer-edge length, or a known camber over the 20 ft reference span. All dimensional inputs use the selected unit system.

Formula and worked example

R = width × L₁ / (L₂ − L₁); camber = R − √(R² − (reference span / 2)²).

For L₁ = 240 in, L₂ = 240.1 in and width = 12 in, the model gives approximately 0.25 in of camber over 20 ft. Equal edge lengths produce zero camber.

Assumptions and interpreting the result

This is the constant-radius approximation used by the reference tool. The reference span is exactly 20 ft (6,096 mm), not 6,000 mm. Edge-length differences are not a substitute for measuring actual strip camber. The tool rejects combinations whose implied radius cannot span the reference chord.

Common questions

Is camber the same as coil set?

No. This tool models sideways curvature along the strip edge. Coil set describes curvature out of the sheet plane and needs a different assessment.

Can I use the result as an acceptance tolerance?

Use the drawing, purchase specification and agreed measurement method for acceptance. This calculator supplies a geometric estimate, not a material tolerance.

Turn the estimate into a processing inquiry.
