Strip handling
Ramp & Bend Radius Calculator
Estimate strip ramp radius from thickness and yield strength, or solve the yield-strength threshold for a specified radius.

How to use this tool
Select radius or yield strength as the unknown. Choose the reference material family, enter thickness, and provide the known yield strength or radius. The default safety factor is 1.10; the optional field makes that assumption explicit.
Formula and worked example
R = (S × E − Y) × t / (2 × Y); inverse: Y = S × E × t / (2 × R + t).
At 0.060 in thickness, 50,000 psi yield strength, E = 30,000,000 psi and safety factor 1.10, the estimated ramp radius is 19.7700 in.
Assumptions and interpreting the result
This reproduces the reference ramp-handling model, including its 10% default safety factor. Steel-family modulus is 30,000,000 psi; aluminum is 10,400,000 psi. This is not a press-brake bend allowance, K-factor, springback or minimum fabrication bend-radius calculator. Review equipment geometry and actual material properties for the job.
Common questions
Why does stronger material give a smaller radius here?
This model estimates the handling radius associated with avoiding permanent set. It does not estimate the minimum radius for deliberately forming a finished bend.
What does the inverse mode mean?
It solves the same equation for the yield-strength threshold at your thickness and radius. It is a model threshold, not a measurement of the material's actual yield strength.
